Whilst still at Law School Mr Maarraoui was employed as a Legal Clerk in a private criminal law practice. Upon admission as a Solicitor he was employed at the Sydney office of the Aboriginal Legal Service practicing in criminal law. Over a 10 year period and appearing daily in court he held the position of Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Managing lawyer practicing across the Sydney Metropolitan area. He appeared in the Local, District, Supreme and Coronial Courts as well as the State Parole Authority.

He was admitted to the Bar in 2009.His practice at the Bar is generally in the Criminal Jurisdiction but has also appeared in the civil jurisdiction. He regularly appears in the Local, District, Supreme Court and State Parole Authority. He has represented and appeared in jurisdictions across Australia, particularly in Brisbane and Melbourne. This includes representation in both State and Commonwealth matters.
