BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Ms England SC specialises in:

  • Criminal and civil appellate law in intermediate appellate courts and the High Court;
  • Criminal law, with a focus on trials in the Supreme Court and other superior courts;
  • Administrative and public law; and
  • Commissions of inquiry (including Royal Commissions and ICAC inquiries) and coronial inquiries.

Ms England has extensive experience in State and Commonwealth criminal matters, at trial and appellate level. She also has extensive experience as Counsel Assisting and as counsel appearing for parties in coronial inquests, and as counsel appearing for parties and witnesses in Royal Commission and ICAC hearings. Additionally, Ms England has a broad general practice in superior courts of record.

Ms England has been an Australian company director of a large international anti-slavery organisation and has run prosecutor training overseas a number of times, with a focus on prosecuting crimes involving gender-based violence. As an Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions from 2022 to 2024, she was a member of the Legal Reference Group for the Coercive Control Implementation and Evaluation Taskforce established under the Crimes Act 1900, and presented numerous training sessions throughout NSW on coercive control reforms. She has also been a member of two NSW Bar Association Professional Conduct Committees and the Criminal Law Committee.
