The Honourable Geoffrey Bellew SC was admitted to the Bar in 1991 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2006. In January 2012 he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW, and served as a member of the Court’s Common Law Division until his retirement in February 2023. In that capacity he presided over lengthy civil and criminal trials, and sat regularly as a member of the Bench of the Court of Criminal Appeal, including as the presiding Judge. In February 2023 he commenced in the position of Chairperson of the State Parole Authority of New South Wales, and he retains his appointments as Adjunct Professor of Law and member of the Law Advisory Board at the University of Notre Dame Sydney, and Chairperson of the Judiciary Panel of the National Rugby League, as well as his appointment as the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal. Mr Bellew is available to act as a Mediator and Arbitrator. He also accepts instructions to provide advice in both civil and criminal related matters. Mr Bellew was Appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2026 for significant service to the judiciary and the law, to the legal profession, and to rugby league.
