Ivan accepts briefs to advise and appear in criminal matters, whether for accused persons or prosecutorial bodies. He is an experienced advocate, having appeared in Local, District and Supreme Courts for over 10 years prior to being called to the bar.

Ivan also accepts briefs to advise and appear in quasi-criminal proceedings, such as commissions of inquiry and inquests.

Hagerty v R [2025] NSWDC 67 – appeared as solicitor advocate – appeal against conviction – client with moderate intellectual disability – failure to comply with the provisions of s 13(5) of the Evidence Act 1995 ­– reliability of child complainant’s evidence – appeal allowed

R v Graham [2024] NSWDC 464 – appeared as solicitor advocate – sentence after disputed facts hearing – client retained 23% discount following disputed facts hearing – near identical past offending

R v Mohamad [2023] NSWDC – appeared as solicitor advocate – trial – domestic violence – causing bodily injury by use of destructive matter – defence adduced tendency evidence of complainant to threaten or engage in self-harm in the context of interpersonal conflicts – not guilty

R v Sazdanovski [2020] NSWDC 379 – instructed counsel as a solicitor – successful application for a permanent stay of proceedings – ex officio indictment filed by Director of Public Prosecutions part way through Local Court hearing
