BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Jessica accepts briefs in a wide range of matters, with a particular focus on criminal law and intentional torts.

Prior to being called to the Bar, Jessica was a Trial Advocate at the Aboriginal Legal Service in Northern NSW.

Jessica has extensive experience appearing unled in a wide range of criminal proceedings, including jury and Judge-alone trials, defended hearings, sentence proceedings, appeals and complex legal arguments.

Jessica was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2018 and was awarded Specialist Accreditation in Criminal Law by the Law Society of New South Wales in 2023.
Prior to working at the Aboriginal Legal Service, Jessica worked in a range of private and public sector roles, including Legal Aid NSW, Maurice Blackburn (Class Actions) and a leading criminal defence firm.

Jessica is a member of the Summary, Indictable and Complex Indictable panels at Legal Aid NSW.

Her reported cases include:

R v Watt [2025] NSWDC 443 -appeared as advocate in trial proceedings where it was established that Ms Watt had a defence under s s 28 of the Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020 (NSW).

R v Farrell [2024] NSWDC 547 – appeared as advocate in trial proceedings in which DNA evidence was excluded for non-compliance with the Crimes (Forensic Procedure) Act 2000 (NSW), resulting in all charges being withdrawn.

R v Lynch [2024] NSWDC 92 – appeared as advocate in sentence proceedings in which the Court found a significant finding of special circumstances for Mr Lynch.

Darlington v Director of Public Prosecutions (NSW) [2023] NSWSC 1139 – instructed Senior Council and junior counsel in an appeal from the Local Court resulting in a finding that the Magistrate had erred by failing to give adequate reasons.

R v Proberts [2022] NSWDC 737 – sentence judgment in which the Court gave Mr Proberts a non-custodial order (Community Corrections Order) for a s 66C offence (sexual intercourse without consent)
