Roy practises as a barrister across both London and Sydney in his specialist fields of professional regulation and discipline of health practitioners, medical/clinical negligence, and Coronial matters. He is a door tenant at 7GBC and a tenant at Pump Court Chambers London.
As a door tenant at 7GBC Roy maintains a practice in medical negligence for NSW clients and other health law related advice. In the UK Roy appears regularly in complex health regulatory hearings representing either health practitioners or regulators. In NSW he has appeared for the NSW HCCC in Professional Standard Committees and NCAT proceedings. He has experience in a wide range of disciplinary matters including misconduct, serious dishonesty, clinical competence concerns, criminal convictions and English language skills. He is regularly instructed in Coronial inquests in the UK.
Roy has qualifications in medicine (MBBS) and business (MBA) and previously worked as a medical practitioner, senior health manager at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney, and in-house legal advisor at Sydney Local Health District. He was legal advisor and a Deputy Chair of the RPA Human Research Ethics Committee. He is a past practising Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators and a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine Royal College of Pathologists Australasia.
Roy has significant experience advising on complex issues of health law, and matters at the interface of law, clinical care, and medical ethics. Roy drafted chapters in Negligence and Professional Liability (chapter 25) and People with Mental Illness and the Law (chapter 18) for the 5th edition of the Australian Medical Council guidance ‘Good Medical Practice: Professionalism, Ethics and Law’ which was published in March 2026.
